About Katherine Halliwell, LPMT, MT-BC, CM-TH
Welcome and thanks for visiting my website!
I am a licensed music therapist and certified music-thanatologist, and am pleased to currently be serving Long Beach, Whittier, and surrounding areas.
I received my undergraduate degrees in music therapy and psychology from Chapman University in Orange, California, completed my music therapy internship at the Franciscan Life Process Center in Lowell, Michigan, and have been certified as a music therapist through the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) since 2008.
I completed my music-thanatology training through the Chalice of Repose Project based in Mount Angel, Oregon, completed my music-thanatology internship at Midwest Palliative and Hospice CareCenter (now JourneyCare) in Glenview, Illinois, and have been certified through the Music-Thanatology Association International (MTAI) since 2015.
Throughout my career thus far, I have been blessed with many wonderful experiences working with a variety of populations all along the spectrum of life, and am particularly drawn to serving individuals at the beginning and end stages of life. I have completed additional music therapy training in Soundbirthing™ music therapy to serve individuals interested in music therapy assisted childbirth, and in the Music Medicine™ protocol to serve individuals interested in improving their mental and emotional well-being.
I have always loved music, and one of my earliest memories is of my dad “marching” me throughout the house, imitating the sounds of a snare drum, in order to put me to sleep. It worked every time! I had my first piano lesson at age 7 and have been playing ever since. I gradually added a few other instruments to my repertoire (voice, guitar, harp, and even a little bit of accordion), and enjoy incorporating each of these into the services I provide. I am so looking forward to the opportunity to work with you toward creating a unique, personalized experience to enhance your overall well-being through the power of music!
